Longest Walk

Le Anpetu Waste. Today is a good day. First and foremost I am greatly appreciative for all that you do for the Native people(s) of Turtle Island to live and survive in this day and age. You are truly a blessing to all of us who are in the same plight to bring unity and healing to our nation(s) more importantly, that to which we all share with one another; our Earth Mother to live.
As we embark upon another decade of facing daily struggles within our respective reservation here within the homeland of the Oglala Lakota, Turtle Island; diabetes, alcoholism, drug abuse, suicide, lack of cultural knowledge etc., I am proud to say that we still have relatives willing to make a stand and move toward changes; The Longest Walk 3 - Northern Route will be coming to our ‘homeland'.

They began their walk towards Washington, D.C. in Portland, Oregon on February 14th 2011. They consist of different tribes of Turtle Island wanting to make a stand against the devastations of diabetes and other crippling circumstances that infiltrate each and every reservation across the modern day America's. They started out with 14 and now they are down to 9; 7 male and 2 female. They have their own media equipment and are documenting issues within the communities in their trek towards Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., Turtle Island (U.of.A).

Each and every tribe is in the same planning efforts as I in taking turns hosting them. As I sit and ponder on this, I feel it is necessary that the Oglala make a superb stance in taking care of them. Simply because we must give them our strength for they will walk with this strength through honor as they continue their trek towards ‘change' to Washington D.C. It's good when we can do this in a collective manner as an Oyate for they will be our guests and they will never forget the manner to which we treated them as Oglala.

Yet, here is my dilemma; my relatives are deeply colonized and assimilated to these efforts. I cannot seem to get them to understand the importance of this very important event. I ask that you please keep this between you and me, for I am embarrassed on behalf of my nation. I will be trekking again back into the Oglala Sioux Tribal headquarters on Monday, March 28th, 2011 to push for this event to be supported through the tribe. As of now, I have no cell phone, no job (thus no funds), and no internet to keep up with the demands of this effort to ‘host' the LW3NR as they walk through our territory. I do have a vehicle yet need gas to travel to make this a unified effort on behalf of my nation.

I am requesting your assistance in any amount that you are able to provide to make this event a successful event. Here is a list of the events that will be taking place:

I appreciate your efforts with all my heart.
Sincerely,

Pte San win `Oglala Lakota `
